If you're planning your solemnisation at the Registry of Marriage (ROM) in Singapore, let me share some of my favourite photography spots and tips to make your special day even more memorable.

ROM is nestled within Fort Canning Park, surrounded by charming colonial buildings, lush greenery, and historical landmarks—perfect for capturing timeless and romantic wedding photos.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of photographing many beautiful ROM ceremonies here, and I know exactly where to go for the best shots.

In this updated guide, I'll walk you through the most photogenic locations, a suggested timeline, and some insider tips to help you plan your ROM photography session, whether you do it before or after the ceremony.

When is Best Timing for ROM?

Timeline (Morning ROM slots at 8:30am -10:00am)

Reach 30 mins before solemnisation time to register
Solemnisation (10 min)

Avoid 11:00am-3pm (Harsh afternoon direct sunlight)

ROM Opening Hours

The Registry of Marriages (ROM) at Fort Canning is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 5 PM, and on Saturdays from 8:30 AM to 12 PM (for kiosk service only), with Sundays and public holidays being closed.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

Weekdays (Monday to Friday): 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
Saturdays: 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM (for Kiosk service only)
Sundays and Public Holidays: Closed
Note: The self-help kiosk and the counter at ROM and ROMM will both cease operation 30 minutes before our daily closing time.

Inside the ROM Solemnisation Room

Stepping inside the ROM solemnisation room, you’ll find an intimate space designed for a simple yet meaningful ceremony. With a seating capacity of up to 20 guests, it’s perfect for couples who prefer a private and fuss-free solemnisation.

At the front of the room, a large solemnisation table is set for the solemniser, with the bride and groom seated across from them. Two additional seats are reserved for the witnesses.

The entire process is quick—lasting about 10 minutes—but filled with heartfelt moments.

Once the couple is seated, the solemniser will verify their IC or passport before beginning the ceremony. If personal vows have been prepared, this is the moment to exchange them; otherwise, couples can simply repeat the standard vows.

After sealing their promises with a ring exchange and their first kiss as husband and wife, they’ll sign the official ROM certificate. Before heading out, we make sure to capture these precious moments before transitioning to family and group photos at the scenic spots nearby.

Family & Group Photos

After the solemnisation, there are two beautiful locations nearby for family and group photos. The first option is the traditional white archways, which serve as the grand gateway into Fort Canning Green. I love how it resembles the entrance of a white castle, adding a touch of elegance and charm to the photos. Plus, it is wheelchair accessible, making it convenient for all family members.

The second location is a nearby garden featuring long wooden benches, perfect for accommodating large families. The lush greenery in the background creates a refreshing and natural setting, making it an excellent spot for capturing heartfelt moments with loved ones.

1. Fort Canning Green

Fort Canning Green is, in my opinion, a must-have location for couple shots. As one of the signature spots in Fort Canning Park, it offers a perfect blend of history and nature. Even though it is an outdoor setting, the presence of large trees provides shade, allowing us to capture beautiful couple shots without harsh direct sunlight. The expansive green grassy field creates a stunning open space, giving us endless possibilities for breathtaking photos. My go-to shots here include a mix of elegant posed portraits, natural candid moments, and romantic walking shots, all set against the lush and timeless backdrop of Fort Canning Green.

It also features various historical white structures that add a unique charm to wedding photography. These elegant colonial-style elements serve as stunning backdrops, giving your photos a timeless and classic feel.

2. Fort Canning Tree Tunnel

The Fort Canning Tree Tunnel is one of the most iconic and classic locations for a wedding couple photoshoot. This picturesque underground spiral staircase, framed by lush greenery and natural light streaming in from above, creates a dreamy and cinematic effect—perfect for capturing romantic wedding portraits.

Due to its popularity, there is usually a wait time of around 30 minutes. One helpful tip is to have a friend or family member queue on your behalf while you capture other shots around Fort Canning Park. This way, you can maximize your time and get the most out of your wedding photoshoot without unnecessary delays.

Photography Tip: While waiting for your turn to take photos, there is a narrow alleyway connected to the tunnel which also makes a great backdrop for couple and solo individual shots as well.

3. Canning Walk Zebra Crossing

Canning Walk Zebra Crossing is a fun and creative spot for wedding photos, great for walking shots across the road. Inspired by the famous Abbey Road-style crossings, this location allows for natural and candid moments while showcasing movement in the photos. Just be sure to keep an eye out for oncoming cars!

Directly across the zebra crossing, you'll find a red staircase—a fantastic contrast to the surrounding greenery and a great backdrop for a wide-angle shot.

Lastly, capturing candid walking shots while walking on the road, heading to the next location.

4. Sang Nila Utama Garden

Sang Nila Utama Garden - a hidden gem within Fort Canning Park. It is a stunning backdrop that transports you straight to Bali. With its beautiful brick archways, traditional Javanese-style architecture, and serene surroundings, this location creates the perfect illusion of an overseas pre-wedding shoot without ever leaving Singapore. This spot is ideal for capturing that exotic Bali-inspired aesthetic right in the heart of Singapore.

5. Fort Gate

Fort Gate sits at the top of Fort Canning Park—it’s not just a historic landmark, but also a great location for couple photos. The old brick walls and archways create a rustic, romantic backdrop, while the surrounding greenery brings a soft, natural touch to the shots. I love capturing couples walking along the pathways, framed by towering trees, or posing on the stone staircases.

6. Cobble Stone Paths

The cobblestone paths winding through Fort Canning Park are some of the most charming and romantic walkways for wedding photography. Surrounded by tall trees that provide a beautiful natural canopy, these paths create a dreamy garden feel. With the soft sunlight filtering through the leaves, adding a warm glow to the shots.

And for something unique, the historic 9-pound cannon nearby can be used as a creative wedding prop, very fitting for this shot with the couple in traditional Indian wedding attire.
